Our best Garlic harvest ever! |
In 2013 we designed a Display Garden for Westcountry Nurseries at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, amongst others. Whilst visiting our garden we took the opportunity to explore the rest of the Show.
We were tempted into purchasing Garlic Bulbs grown on the Isle of Wight. Unlike using supermarket bulbs that are grown mainly in parts of the world with a Mediterranean climate, the bulbs from the Isle of Wight have been bred for a UK climate.
And this year we’ve had a bumper harvest of the Early Purple Wight and the Provence Wight. The Avignon Wight produced an average crop, and we lost the Elephant Garlic during the second year of growing the four varieties we’d selected…. Try growing garlic if you’ve never done so. They’re relatively easy, but need to be planted starting November, so don’t leave it too late, and do use garlic bulbs bred for our UK climate! Try something NEW.
