What’s “New” in December –it could be called a drab month in the garden? After two or more years of waiting we’ve a new Arched Gateway on Hermitage Walk. And the wait wasn’t the fault of the stonemason who built it, but the previous stonemason who for two years kept promising until we gave up waiting on his broken dates…. The Archway and adjacent walling could be mistaken for medieval works from the old Priory, but it’s all new! The mason said it was the first time he’d been asked to build a ruin… The Arch is set across the path leading to our Hermitage; a narrow conduit that occurs on the oldest of maps of Bocombe, but has no reasonable explanation as to its purpose. We’re awaiting an oak planked door to complete the Gateway, then we’ll be sorted for our next garden openings……
